ECO line – a chunky undyed alpaca beanie: warm, soft, and it does not prickle

A chunky ribbed beanie with a deep folded brim. It measures 50 cm around unstretched and stretches as much as you like, so it sits close without gripping.

Nothing here is dyed. The color is the color of the alpaca itself – white. It is 77% alpaca, and the remaining 23% is polyester made from recycled plastic.

Alpaca carries no lanolin, so there is nothing in it to itch, and the fiber is hollow – that is where this much warmth comes from at this weight. Because the yarn is undyed it stays a little fluffy and sheds a small amount of fiber for a short period at the beginning.

It is knitted to shape – fully-fashioned, never cut out of a length of knitted fabric – and wherever the knit is joined it is hand-linked: the open stitches are fed onto the linking machine one loop at a time, so the join stretches with the knit.

It is hand-finished and hand-steamed, then washed before it leaves the workshop, so it arrives at its true size and stays there. The yarn is spun in Italy.

I design every piece myself, and it is knitted in a small workshop here in Lithuania – a few at a time, never off a production line.

This listing is for the beanie on its own. The scarf shown in the photographs is a separate item, sold separately.

Every piece passes through my hands before it is packed – I check each one myself before it goes out.

It arrives in a plain brown box with the care card inside and nothing else – no filler paper, no leaflets. That is a choice, not a saving – I would rather use less than print something that is made to be thrown away.

The beanie stretches well, so it fits any head. The knit is genuinely thick.

CARE:
– hand wash;
– maximum washing temperature 30 °C;
– gently squeeze the excess water out of the washed garment, do not wring it;
– do not hang it wet on a hanger, as it will lose its shape;
– do not tumble dry;
– iron on the lowest setting with steam, or simply steam it.
