SMALL GROWN-UP – the kids sweater knitted by hand

A tunic-length sweater in moss stitch. The back is knitted longer than the front, so it stays covered when the child bends, climbs and sits down, and there are two patch pockets at the hem – the first thing small hands go looking for.

The sleeves are knitted long on purpose. Fold the cuffs back now and let them down as the child grows, so the sweater lasts more than one winter.

A zip runs down the back with a small leather pull, so the neck opens wide and the sweater goes on without a fight – and comes off the same way.

I design these myself and knit every one by hand here in Lithuania, on needles – stitch by stitch. Moss stitch is slow work, and that is what gives it the dense, springy surface a machine rib does not have. Every piece is washed before it leaves the workshop, so it arrives at its true size and stays there.

90% lamb wool with 10% alpaca. Lamb wool is the fine, soft wool of the first shearing, and alpaca carries no lanolin and is hollow inside – warmth without the weight, and nothing in it to prickle a child. The yarn is spun in Italy.

Every piece passes through my hands before it is packed – I check each one myself before it goes out.

It arrives in a plain brown box with the care card inside and nothing else – no filler paper, no leaflets. That is a choice, not a saving – I would rather use less than print something that is made to be thrown away.

Color – oatmeal. Sizes 1-4 years.

CARE:
– hand wash;
– maximum washing temperature 30 °C;
– gently squeeze the excess water out of the washed garment, do not wring it;
– do not hang it wet on a hanger, as it will lose its shape;
– do not tumble dry;
– iron on the lowest setting with steam, or simply steam it.
