An alpaca and merino snood with a beanie – warmth without the weight

A closed 30 x 155 cm loop with a beanie hat to match. The snood goes on over the head in one movement – no ends to tie. Both pieces are knitted in garter stitch. It does not prickle, and that makes it comfortable. The yarn has no long hair to it, so it does not shed onto your clothes and it does not pill.

The beanie is knitted 30 cm high, so it sits loosely at the back rather than clinging to the head. One size: the knit gives and holds that shape instead of stretching out.

The alpaca in the blend carries no lanolin at all, and the fiber is hollow, so it traps more air and stays warmer for its weight than sheep wool alone. The merino keeps it fine enough not to prickle and regulates temperature both ways.

It is knitted to shape – fully-fashioned, never cut out of a length of knitted fabric – and wherever the knit is joined it is hand-linked: the open stitches are fed onto the linking machine one loop at a time, so the join stretches with the knit.

It is hand-finished and hand-steamed, then washed before it leaves the workshop, so it arrives at its true size and stays there. The yarn is spun in Italy.

I design every piece myself, and it is knitted in a small workshop here in Lithuania – a few at a time, never off a production line.

Every piece passes through my hands before it is packed – I check each one myself before it goes out.

It arrives in a plain brown box with the care card inside and nothing else – no filler paper, no leaflets. That is a choice, not a saving – I would rather use less than print something that is made to be thrown away.

70% merino wool, 30% alpaca wool.

CARE:
– hand wash;
– maximum washing temperature 30 °C;
– gently squeeze the excess water out of the washed garment, do not wring it;
– do not hang it wet on a hanger, as it will lose its shape;
– do not tumble dry;
– iron on the lowest setting with steam, or simply steam it.
