Knit oversized merino wool scarf, extra wide - dark blue

A merino wool scarf on a generous scale - 90 cm wide and 250 cm long, in dark blue. There is enough of it to wind twice around the neck, to wrap over the shoulders like a shawl, or to wear open as a floor-length cape over a coat. Dark blue is a true navy - the alternative to black when black feels too hard.

The yarn is fine 100% merino, so even at this size the scarf sits light on the shoulders instead of weighing them down. It is a blanket scarf in the true sense: nothing fastens or buckles - it drapes, and it stays where you put it.

Merino is why it works indoors as well as out. The fibre is fine enough not to prickle the way coarser wool does, it regulates temperature in both directions, and it holds up to a third of its own weight in moisture before it feels damp. This is an all-year piece, not a winter-only one.

It is knitted to shape - fully-fashioned, never cut out of a length of knitted fabric - and wherever the knit is joined it is hand-linked: the open stitches are fed onto the linking machine one loop at a time, so the join stretches with the knit and lies flat.

It is hand-finished and hand-steamed, then washed before it leaves the workshop, so it arrives at its true size and stays there. The yarn is spun in Italy.

I design every piece myself, and it is knitted in a small workshop here in Lithuania - a few at a time, never off a production line.

Every piece passes through my hands before it is packed - I check each one myself before it goes out.

It arrives in a plain brown box with the care card inside and nothing else - no filler paper, no leaflets. That is a choice, not a saving - I would rather use less than print something that is made to be thrown away.

CARE:
- Hand wash;
- Maximum washing temperature 30 C;
- When washed, gently squeeze the excess water out of the garment;
- Do not hang the wet garment on a hanger, as it will/may lose it‛s original shape;
- Do not tumble dry;
- Cool iron with steam or other wet method.
